Mindfulness 6 Week Course

Course Objectives

This course consists of six weekly sessions which are held at your premises. Each session lasts for two hours. Participants learn all of the principle mindfulness meditation techniques as well as practices to bring mindfulness into any aspect of daily life. Participants are given clear guidance for practicing mindfulness and integrating it into their lives so that after six weeks they have established a solid understanding of mindfulness and experienced the multiple benefits it offers for themselves.

Following the approach used to teach mindfulness by Jon Kabat-Zinn and colleagues at the University of Massachusetts, this course provides in-depth training in what is arguably one of the most useful ‘mind technologies’ available today.

Having been the subject of thousands of academic studies, mindfulness is recognised as offering multiple benefits to individual wellbeing and to work performance and productivity. Research has shown that people who regularly practice mindfulness are happier, perform better, have greater stress resilience, and enjoy healthier relationships. Who is it for?

Any member of staff who would like to learn mindfulness and experience the improvements in mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing that the practice offers.

Training Style

This is a structured training with specific mindfulness exercises introduced in each weekly session. Each session builds on the previous week so that by the end the participants have had comprehensive practice of mindfulness and have learned a selection of methods for sustaining their mindfulness practice in the longer-term. Emphasis is placed on supporting people in applying the mindfulness techniques  to their working environment as well as to their life in general.

Participants receive a comprehensive set of handouts, specific activities for home practice each week, and a range of assessment templates to help them monitor progress over the course. Sample schedules for maintaining an ongoing mindfulness practice after the programme has finished are also provided.

The approach used in facilitating this course is person-centred, so supporting each participant’s unique needs with material takes precedence. Each session includes ample time for people to share their experiences with the mindfulness practices and to offer solutions for any difficulties someone may be having.

The UK Network for Mindfulness-Based Teacher Training Organisations have created recommendations for best practice for teaching mindfulness. These include the trainer having an on-going personal practice of mindfulness and attending an in-depth, rigorous mindfulness-based teacher training programme.

The trainer has been practicing mindfulness for approximately 20 years and has had a meditation practice since her early teens. She is in the final stage of her professional training to become a fully qualified Mindfulness Teacher with ‘BreathWorks’, one of the affiliated schools of the Mindfulness-Based Teacher Training Organisation.

  • Week Four Acceptance, Choice and Freedom. Present Moment Awareness. More Breathing Exercises and Meditation Methods.
  • Week Five Energisers and Depleters. Taking control. Increasing pleasure and decreasing stress. Maintaining balance.
  • Week Six Strategies to address stress in the moment. How to maintain your ongoing mindfulness practice. Potential pitfalls and how to avoid them.
  • Each session includes experiential mindfulness exercises, discussion, group exercises to build stress resilience, and strategies for home practice. Comprehensive course notes are provided.
